Storms arrive in Butler County

Butler County is under a tornado watch as severe thundershowers have entered the area. The main threat to Butler County will be between 5 and 8 p.m., according to the NWS, and the tornado watch will not expire until 8 p.m.

The strong line of severe thunderstorms approaching the area from Mississippi is expected to be extremely hazardous, capable of producing damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. The time of concern, for the majority of south Alabama, is approximately 3 p.m. to midnight.

National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a line of strong thunderstorms from two miles southwest of Alabama Highway 47 to two miles northeast of Sardine moving east at 50 miles per hour. Scattered showers are expected during the night in and around Butler County.

The Butler County School District released students at 1 p.m. today due to the projected bad weather.

All afternoon activities scheduled involving Butler County schools have been cancelled.

Fort Dale Academy also released its students at 1:20 p.m. today as well, and cancelled a scheduled baseball game.
