One of Alabama’s best known political columnists and commentators will be the keynote speaker at the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce banquet in February.

“We are very excited to have Steve Flowers join us for our banquet at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on February 15. It’s shaping up to be another excellent event,” says Francine Wasden, executive director of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce.

A Troy native, Flowers, state representative for Pike County from 1982 to 1998, left that office both undefeated and uncontested, chalking up a perfect attendance record for 16 consecutive years. He was also voted by his colleagues as the Most Outstanding Member of the House of Representatives in 1992.

Since 2002, Flowers has penned a weekly column on Alabama politics. Today, that column appears in more than 60 state newspapers with a combined circulation of 360,000.

In addition to his writing, he serves as the political analyst for several television stations around the state and has a weekly radio show on Alabama politics that can be heard on public radio.

Flowers has also analyzed the always fascinating subject of Alabama politics for national television audiences on CBS, ABC, PBS, Fox, CNN, Bloomberg and the British Broadcasting Network. 

“I know that Steve is going to captivate the audience with his wonderful storytelling about Alabama politics,” says Francine Wasden, executive director of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce. “Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of his book, ‘Goats and Governors’ at the event.”

The banquet is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, at the conference center on the LBW Community College-Greenville campus. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the Chamber Depot or from any Chamber board member.

“The Chamber of Commerce truly looks forward to this event every year, as it is an opportunity for our members to come together and visit with one another, and for us to recognize just a few of those who have made a difference in our community,” Wasden says.
