HHS hires new principal

Highland Home native Clifton Maddox has been named principal of his alma mater. Maddox will replace Randall Fullington, who tendered his resignation last March.

Athletic director Doug Bailey was promoted to assistant principal. He will replace Morgan Cook, who also resigned in March.

“We’re just proud to have them in Crenshaw County and look forward to working with them,” said Superintendent Terry Holley.

Fullington’s and Morgan’s contracts end June 30.

The school board will meet this evening to narrow the list of superintendent candidates from the current pool of six. The board completed the first round of interviews Monday with candidate Rhinnie Scott, current director of career technical education in Greene County.

“I believe I was placed here on earth to lead a school district to great heights,” she told board members. “I am committed to education. It is my passion.”

Board members plan to complete the next round of interviews and make a decision in the next two weeks.

During Monday’s meeting, the board approved the 2015-16 school calendar.

Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 17. Next year’s final day of school will be May 26.
