Ann Bruce Mauldin Faircloth passed away April 7, 2015 at the age of 87.  A native of Rock Hill, S.C., she was the youngest of six children born to Mayme Williams Mauldin and William Mark Mauldin. 

Brucie lived a full and active life.  She attended Winthrop Training School and completed her grade school years at St. Mary’s in Raleigh, N.C., and the National Cathedral School in Washington D.C.  She attended college in New York and graduated from the Barmore School.

In 1948, she married her best friend and next door neighbor, Frederick William Faircloth.  She and Sonny enjoyed 53 years together.  Sonny’s career in the lumber industry took them from Rock Hill to Franklin, Tenn., and Greenville, Ala.  After his retirement, they moved to Georgetown, S.C.  They returned to their beloved Rock Hill in 1999.  She and Sonny were married in St. John’ s United Methodist Church and were grateful to once again be a part of the congregation that meant so much to their family.

They moved several times during Sonny’s career and Brucie became an enthusiastic member of each community.  She was past President of the Junior Welfare League of Rock Hill, SC, member of the Rock Hill Debutante Club, supporter of York Place, the National Cathedral School, Clemson University and Winthrop University.

Her work with the Woman’s Club of Rock Hill was especially dear to her heart.   In 1971 the service organization purchased Brucie’s childhood home, the Armstrong-Mauldin House.  Throughout her parents’ lives, the home was the site of many happy occasions.  The members of the Woman’s Club with the support of the community restored the home and gardens to be the center for their activities.  Brucie loved knowing the home was once again the site of weddings, parties and community gatherings.

A consummate hostess, she loved hosting gatherings for her family and friends.  She had a generous soul and instinctively knew when someone needed a home cooked meal, errands run or a hand to hold. Her many friends will remember her as a true friend with a great sense of fun.

She is survived by her four children, Fred (Phyllis) Faircloth of Rock Hill, Mark (Jennifer) Faircloth, Ocean Springs, MS, Cameron (Carol) Faircloth, Knoxville, TN and Ann Bruce (Billy) Porter of Auburn, AL.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Freddy (Catherine) Faircloth, Virginia Faircloth, Will (Ella) Faircloth, Rebecca (Charlie) Duffield, Cameron (Theresa) Faircloth , Nathan Faircloth  and Brucie Porter  as well as great grandchildren Rose, Libba and Ann Lowry Faircloth, Nicole and Marilyn Faircloth.

She was predeceased in death by her brothers Cecil and Billy Mauldin and her sisters Margaret Mauldin, Mary Zimmerman and Betty Mauldin.

A grave side service will be at Laurelwood Cemetery Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:30. A memorial service will follow at St. John’s United Methodist Church at 2:00.  Following the service, a celebration of her life will be held at  her childhood home 607 Aiken Avenue. At other times the family will receive friends at her home.

Brucie always loved angels and encountered many in this life especially as her health began to fail.  The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Bright Star services, Westminster Health & Rehab and to her care givers Trina King and Chrisie Pope of Home Bridge Community Care and Hospice &  Community Care.  They are also profoundly grateful to her longtime physicians Dr. Fred Miller and Dr. Nat Edwards
