Two aggressive and determined teams took to the court Tuesday as the Goshen Eagles boy’s basketball team hosted the Highland Home Flying Squadron.

Both teams came out ready to play leaving no score unanswered. Following the first quarter, the Eagles led the Flying Squadron by just two points, and the score continued to edge higher and higher with small differences between either team.

“We contained them for the most part,” said Proctor. “They really didn’t shoot the ball on us like they did during the (Georgiana) tournament. What really hurt us was the inside play.”

Goshen managed to pull ahead to end the game with a 55-44 win.

Proctor expected a challenge from Goshen.

“They have four very good guards and they run them in and out of the game,” he said.

On top of that, The Eagles bench runs deep. Proctor estimated about 35 players counting junior varsity. The Flying Squadron are playing with 11. A few of them play nonstop.

“Tay Fuller played all but three minutes last night,” Proctor said. “And he did well.”

Highland Home will take on Central-Hayneville Friday, Alabama Christian Academy Monday and McKenzie Tuesday (all at home) before heading back to Goshen Dec. 11 to 13 for the Goshen Tournament.

Proctor said he was not bothered by the prospects of another Goshen game in the near future.

“There’s no use running from them,” he said. “You’ve just got to prepare for them and go after them again.”

For now, the Squadron will be preparing for another tough opponent Friday night. Central-Hayneville will be running a 2-2-1 press and 2-2-1 trap.

Proctor said the school’s reputation extends throughout the state.

“They’re known in the state for basketball. I’m talking about pure athletes and guys that play year-round,” he said.
