Fellowship and worship will take place at Pine Flat Methodist Church as it celebrates its annual homecoming and Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5 at the historical church located west of Greenville on Hwy. 10

Descendants of the original founders and their friends will come together to celebrate the long history of the church and its cemetery as they gather together.

Rev. David Saliba, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville, will deliver the message.

Saliba, a Dothan native, attended Birmingham Southern College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree before earning a Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

Special music will be provided by Mrs. Charles Terry, Jr., and Mrs. Ken Renfroe, with Matt Langford serving as song leader.

Mrs. Myralyn Traweek Watson will lead the memorial service, with Mr. and Mrs. McDuffie Stallworth, Mrs. Larry Smith, Mrs. Wayne Wall and Mrs. Billy Dees serving as registrars. Mary Helen Terry will serve as the acolyte.

Pine Flat Methodist Church was restored under the guidance of Helen Lazenby Poole, and has been a leading spiritual influence in the community for more than 150 years. Although regular services are no longer held at the church, descendants and former members attend christenings, weddings, and other special events at the church.

The trustees of the Pine Flat Cemetery Association invite all family members, those with ancestral connections and friends to attend the annual event. The morning worship service will be followed by dinner on the grounds. Bring a basket lunch, folding chairs, folding tables, and enjoy the great Christian fellowship.
