A resolution passed by the council states that the “property located on Milner Street and West Commerce/North College Streets is considered a public nuisance and its acquisition by the City would provide for desired future development to eliminate drug activity at Milner Street and to improve traffic flow at the corner of West Commerce Street and North College Street.”

The land will be purchased with money from the city’s Capital Improvements Restricted Fund.

In other business, the council awarded the following bids for the upcoming fiscal year:

  • Vehicle towing: Till’s Wrecker Service at a rate of $20 per tow for in town, out of town, day or night service and mileage to be invoiced at $2 per mile one way only.
  • 5,000-mile vehicle maintenance: Norman-Blackmon Motor Company, Inc. at $54 per vehicle.
  • Vehicle fleet repair: Bob and Wayne’s Auto Repair at $37.50 per hour for labor and parts to be invoiced at list price less a 10-percent discount.
  • Automated fueling system purchases: Middleton Oil Company, Inc. for the purchase of unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel at the current market price.
