A fire in the early morning hours of June 30 completely destroyed the Butler County Health Department building on Airport Road in Greenville, a facility which also housed the Butler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) offices. Fortunately, the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, though authorities do not suspect arson.
“There’s still a lot that needs to be done but from the fire department standpoint, our part is over,” said Greenville Fire Chief Douglas Belletete. “After the investigation, the cause of the fire is undetermined.”
The Butler County Health Department was deemed a total loss, and officials within the department are currently looking for a suitable location to offer services. The Butler County Emergency Management Agency is temporarily being housed on the campus of Lurleen B. Wallace (LBW) Community College.
