Lawrence Hamilton Philpot, Sr. passed away on June 20, at the age of 88 in his hometown of Greenville.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, June 23, beginning at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dunklin Funeral Home with Brother Herbert Brown officiating and Dunklin Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family received friends for visitation beginning at 2 p.m. until service time.
Although his health had declined in his last few weeks, he continued to tell his stories to anyone who would listen and he enjoyed seeing all his friends and family who stopped in to visit.
Lawrence met the love of his life, Myrlene Newton, at a café in downtown Greenville. he said she was the prettiest thing he had ever seen. They married on Nov. 9, 1954 and had four children.
He was preceded to heaven by his wife Myrlene, his beloved granddaughter Brittany Myrlena Harris; precious great-granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Harris; sister Mary Sarno; father, Ed Mac Philpot and mother Howell Frances Hamilton Philpot.
Lawrence was an avid fox hunter. He loved walker hound dogs, red foxes and Alabama football (not necessarily in that order).
Those left to remember him are his children, Larry Philpot (Barbara) Greenville ;Kenny Philpot (Becky) Montgomery; Allison Harris (Terry) Greenville; Beverly Ogburn (Steven) Auburn; grandchildren Trey Philpot, Clint Philpot (Beth), Dylan Ogburn, Tate Ogburn and Bryan Harris; great grandchildren, Cora Philpot and Lily Philpot, sister Carolyn Reed; brothers Charles Philpot and Don Philpot and a host of other relatives and friends.
While we have lost our deeply loved daddy, grandpaw, uncle, cousin and brother we know that many have lost a great friend, co-worker and hunting buddy. So we invite you to share your stories about Lawrence and talk about all the good times. He would love that we are laughing and reminiscing together during this time.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be given to the Mt. Carmel Cemetery Fund, c/o David Burt, 111 Stoneroad Drive, Greenville, Alabama 36037 or to one’s favorite charity.
