The Greenville Camellia Society (GCS) hosted a Garden Party during its May meeting at the Beeland Park Complex on May 8. The event marked an important gathering for the society aimed at welcoming new members and discussing upcoming projects.
President Jan Newton greeted attendees and highlighted the significance of the society’s endeavors.
“The camellia shows in Greenville in the mid-1900s made a huge historic impact on our state,” Newton said. “Bringing back this historic event to Greenville will serve as a catalyst to regain attention to our small town,”
Vice president and Camellia Show chairman Helena Shirley outlined plans for future meetings to organize committee chairs for the 2025 Camellia Show slated for Feb 15-16, 2025.
Following the business meeting, attendees and prospective members enjoyed refreshments served on themed tables with displays honoring mothers and representing a fairyland, a tropical world and Greenville’s camellia history.
Newton expressed enthusiasm for the response to plans for next year’s show.
“The show next year will be bigger and better now that we have experience under our belt,” Newton said. “Our new members are very excited to participate in the show’s production.”
The club’s garden party marks the last formal meeting until September.
