A Greenville woman graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Saturday, earning her four-year degree in just two years at age 19.
Amiry Makensie Bell, a graduate of Greenville High School (GHS), completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing Summa Cum Laude with distinguished honors April 27. She finished a program designed to take four years in only two years because she took full advantage of the dual enrollment courses offered at the high school.
Bell was the salutatorian of Greenville’s Class of 2022. She earned an associate degree in science from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBW) in May 2022, just a few week before gaining her high school diploma.
With her high school diploma and associate’s degree in hand, Bell enrolled at UAB as a junior. According to her mom, Shawnda Bell, this saved her parents tuition money while affording Amiry the opportunity to complete her bachelor degree two years early.
At UAB, she was a member of the UAB Honors College, vice president of the Black Business Student Association and a member of the American Marketing Association. She also successfully completed an internship at Cherry Grove where she learned and gained a great deal of work experience in the marketing field.
Bell is currently completing a second internship with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Her next steps include completing her internship with TVA and deciding whether she will continue to work and obtain more experience or if she will enroll in a graduate program and if so, which college she will attend her Master of Business Administration.
The Greenville native is the daughter of Rickey and Shawnda Bell and sister to Jace Bell.
