The Second Annual Hank Williams Sr. Talent Showcase is set to captivate audiences at the Georgiana Opry House on May 4, starting at 6 p.m. This event, aimed at recognizing and promoting young vocal talent in the region, pays tribute to the legendary Hank Williams Sr., who performed with his band, The Drifting Cowboys, at the historic venue, formerly known as the GA-ANA Theater, when he was just 16 years old.
Contestants vying for the top spot in the showcase have undergone a rigorous selection process. Each participant submitted a five-minute video showcasing their unique talent. From numerous submissions, only six finalists emerged.
The finalists are currently immersed in a month-long adventure, learning the intricacies of putting together a show. This includes mastering lighting, sound, equipment, vocal coaching, and image consulting which will culminate in a special group performance, showcasing their newfound skills.
Tracy Eason, owner of the Opry House, expressed her excitement about the event, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of the contestants.
“It is a really neat mix of kids from all over,” Eason said. “They’re not friends or buddies, and they’re coming together to perform as a group. This contest has expanded in such a positive way, and we’ve gotten so much support from the community. I’m very excited.”
The stakes are high for the six finalists, as one lucky winner will walk away with a grand prize that includes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The winner will be flown to Nashville to work with one of the best producers at Pat Holt Productions, located in the heart of music city Nashville. The prize package includes recording with five top studio musicians, background vocals, engineering, and production by Pat Holt, who has recorded legends for over 40 years and is married to the talented Irlene Mandrell. Additionally, Grace Records Nashville LLC will provide digital distribution to all major platforms and radio, along with a cover story in one of three prestigious music magazines: Christian Voice, Cashbox or Cross Country USA Magazine. To help with travel expenses, Georgiana Opry House will provide $2500, covering hotel, fuel, food, and more. The total estimated package value is $10,000.
The panel of judges includes “top ten” country artist Leon Everette, country music singer-songwriter Ashton Shepherd, Vest Music Group CEO and producer Jim Vest and legendary steel guitarist Lynn Owsley.
Second-time judge Leon Everette shared his enthusiasm for the showcase.
“I’m proud to be a part of it,” Everette said. “Last year, they had some really fine contestants, so I’m looking forward to it.”
