Greenville Elementary School was a hub of excitement on Friday, Apr. 19, as students participated in a Color Run/Healthy Celebration event. The event, held from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., on the Greenville Middle School football field, marked the culmination of the Move Alabama Pop-Up challenge and the Body Quest nutrition program, promoting physical activity and healthy living among students.
Tiffany Thomas Bellamy, a dedicated third-grade math and science teacher at Greenville Elementary, praised the event.
“I think this is a great opportunity for students to get active and participate in games that they don’t normally get to do because they are so busy with devices and such. So it’s wonderful,” Bellamy said.
Terronda Fields, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) assistant with the Butler County Extension office, detailed the activities that kicked off with an egg hunt.
“They did a pop up challenge for ‘Move Alabama’ and it was an egg hunt,” Fields said. “I came out and hid a few eggs. They found them and then we did the exercise that was hidden inside the egg. As a reward for that, we did this color run. This way, they’re still doing exercise.”
The Color Run/Healthy Celebration Event featured mini rotations of physical activities such as hula hoop, jump rope, hopscotch, a cone obstacle course and the colorful run itself. The event successfully encouraged students to engage in physical activity in a fun and interactive way, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
With the enthusiastic support of the teachers, staff, and volunteers, the students had a memorable and enriching experience at the Color Run/Healthy Celebration Event.
