Greenville welcomed a new mobile coffee and donut shop, Groovy Glaze Co., with a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Apr. 5. The shop is the brainchild of Maci Mathews, manager of Camellia Sweet Treats, and promises to offer a unique experience to its patrons.

“The way it is set up, I am a franchisee of Camellia Sweet Treats,” Mathews said. “So it’s under the Sweet Treats brand but it’s my trailer.”

Initially offering a limited menu of mini donuts and a variety of coffee options, Mathews plans to expand the offerings to create a mobile cafe experience.

“We’re going to have mini donuts and eventually I want to do all kinds of coffee so it’s going to be like a cafe in a trailer,” Mathews said. “The donuts are just like regular donuts but they’re little. You can eat one in two bites.”

Current donut offerings include vanilla or chocolate glaze, with toppings such as sprinkles, Oreo crumbles, honey, powdered sugar, or cinnamon and sugar.

Parked on Commerce Street, The Groovy Glaze Co. opened its doors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on its debut day. However, Mathews is keen on mixing up the location and hours to cater to different schedules.

“We want to have some early mornings so people on their way to work can get something but also some hours later in the day for people who are leaving work or just want an afternoon snack,” she explained.

To keep customers informed about the trailer’s whereabouts, Mathews plans to regularly update the business’s social media pages.

Chapman Simmons, owner of Camellia Sweet Treats, expressed confidence in the venture’s success, noting their joint business experience.

“Maci came up with this idea a few months ago, and we started planning. From there, we moved forward with it pretty quickly,” Simmons said.

The trailer, which was custom-built from an enclosed trailer previously used to haul motorcycles, now boasts a pristine and cozy interior.

“We built the trailer from scratch,” Simmons said. “We stripped it down and then built it out. It’s really nice on the inside now.”
