In honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness month, the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center is teaming up with the Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama (RMCCA) Campus for a Wear Blue Day Community Health Fair on Thursday, Mar. 21. The event, located at 29 L. V. Stabler Dr, Greenville, will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The health fair will feature an Amazing Walk-Thru Colon Display, a Fun Walk with a “Survivor” and/or “In Memory of” display board, and a Question & Answer Session. Additionally, the Commissioners Pit Food Truck will be on campus for lunch, with a portion of the proceeds going to the RMCCA Healthy Circle.

Evangelist Carolyn Griffin from Warrior Ministries, known for leading prayer events in the community, expressed enthusiasm about the event. 

“As we continue our prayer initiative, we thought this would not only be a wonderful opportunity to offer prayer to survivors and family members but also focus on awareness and prevention,” Griffin said. “We’ll pray for anyone but our prayer is that people will do the screenings and take care of the temple God has given us.”

David Norell, Director of Business Development at Regional Medical Center, highlighted the importance of the event, noting that this is the second time the center has hosted it.

“In addition to the Q&A seminars, we’re going to have some local vendors… Comfort Care and other home health agencies… businesses that support healthcare events,” Norell said. “We just want people to know that this is treatable if found early and screenings are easily accessible.”

The American Cancer Society recommends that people with an average risk for cancer begin screening at age 45 and continue through age 75. 

The community health fair aims to raise awareness about the importance of screenings and early detection in combating cancer. Participants and attendees can expect a day filled with education, support, and opportunities for prayer and remembrance.
