Alabama cattleman Jimmy Jones, owner of Horseshoe J Longhorns in Greenville, received dual honors on Jan.12 in Fort Worth, Texas. The accolades, presented during Texas Longhorn Weekend, an integral part of the Historic Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, underscored Jones’ lifelong dedication to the Texas Longhorn breed.

“I’ve spent my whole adult life raising longhorns,” Jones said. “To be awarded for something that you love doing is a great feeling. It’s very rewarding.”

Jones was first bestowed with the prestigious Elmer Parker Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition reserved for Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America (TLBBA) members dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Longhorn breed. Nominated by his peers, Jones was lauded for his exceptional breeding acumen, alongside his humility, honesty and commitment to helping fellow breeders succeed, often without seeking recognition for himself.

Sherri Jones, his wife, echoed the sentiments, and said the award is a testament to Jimmy’s dedication and hard work in building their Longhorn business from the ground up.

“He’s been in this business pushing 40 years now,” Sherri said. “He started from nothing and bred these cows, getting better and better.”

After the award, Jones was inducted into the TLBAA Hall of Fame. The honor is reserved for individuals who have significantly influenced and impacted the Texas Longhorn breed. Jones’ induction reflects his profound and lasting contributions to the breed, marking him as one of its most influential figures.
