Nominations underway for Butler County Achiever Awards

Preparations are underway for the 27th annual Achiever Award Scholarship and Banquet, sponsored by the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce. The awards aim to recognize outstanding male and female high school senior athletes in Butler County schools who exemplify Christian, community, athletic and academic leadership.
Tracy Salter, director of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, explained the selection process.
“The principal or headmaster, guidance counselor and athletics director from each school in Butler County selects a nominees each year based on application criteria,” Salter said. “All the packets have been delivered to the schools and include the detailed criteria.”
Additionally, the Achiever Award includes the presentation of a $3,500 scholarship, a one-time award to the male and female recipients to assist with their educational expenses. Past winners of the have gone on to excel in various fields, including politics, law, medicine, education and many other professions, becoming leaders in their communities.
Garrick Pimienta, the Athletic Director at Greenville High School, said that the selection process is already under way.
“We’re in the process of doing nominations right now. So far, we have a total of 8 students selected,” Pimienta said. “I think we’ll have more for this year than ever before.”
Pimienta emphasized that while the school has several outstanding senior athletes, not every student with great athletic skill and good grades can be nominated.
“It’s based on academics, sports, community, and religion,” Pimienta explained. “They can’t have one or two and not the others. They have to be the total package.”
The 2024 Achiever Award Scholarship and Banquet will be held at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on the campus of LBW Community College in Greenville on Thursday, May 2, at 6 p.m.
