Greenville residents lined the Gateway Plaza sidewalk on Friday’s rainy morning, excitedly anticipating the opening of the community’s newest retail store, Bealls Outlet. Mayor Dexter McClendon cut the traditional red ribbon at 9 a.m. sharp as store gift cards were passed out to the first 100 customers.

Greenville native Steven Vickery, the outlet’s manager, said Bealls plans on being very active in the community and hosting events.

“I’m just really glad to have the opportunity to open a store like this for the community,” Vickery said. “There’s not too many places like this that residents can go, especially with the deals and prices that we have, you can get some really high-end merchandise at comparatively nothing. I’m really grateful for everybody who has come out, and look forward to getting involved in the community.”

Ronda Wood, Bealls Outlet District Manager, said the outlet company aims to open in communities that don’t have a lot of options, making Greenville a perfect location.

“We want to be this community’s go-to,” Wood said. “We’re the one stop shop. We were really pleased with the turnout this morning. We want to support the community in any way we can and we’re just happy to be here.”

Gift cards varying between $5, $10, $20 and $50 were given at random to the first 100 people in line and upon entry Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This coming weekend there will be a QR code customers can scan and input their information to be registered to possibly win a $100 gift card.

Tracy Salter, Director of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is thrilled to welcome Bealls to Greenville.

“The store looks great and offers a large selection of items,” Salter said. “The new store employs between 10-15 people and is already in the process of working on holiday projects to benefit the local community.”

According to Vickery, the store will accept donations – toys, clothing, blankets and similar items – for the Safe Harbor Christmas charity from now until the holiday. The manager asks that all donations be given unwrapped. Bealls Outlet is located at 147 Gateway Plaza.
