Agents with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are continuing the investigation of a fatal shooting in Georgiana that claimed the life of a Butler County man Oct. 18.
Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, SBI agents have not yet released any details, including the victim’s name and the time and place of the shooting.
“After speaking directly with investigators, because of the sensitive nature of this incident, we are not going to be able to release any information at the time,” said ALEA Sgt. Jeremy Burkett on Friday.
Georgiana Police Chief Jeremy Peagler confirmed Wednesday evening that a shooting in Georgiana had claimed the life of a Butler County man. Not much else is known at this time, as the investigation is still under way.
Peagler said he called in SBI and gave agents control of the case.
“I have turned this investigation over to SBI and so I won’t be the one to be leading this investigation,” Peagler said.
Peagler was able to confirm that a fatal shooting occurred in Georgiana. Just after 8:30 p.m., he and other investigators were still on the scene.
“I’m not going to release any names or give any information or details at this time since I am not the lead investigator,” Peagler confirmed.
At press time, Burkett said the agency would release more details as soon as possible.
“I spoke with the investigators this morning and they advised that hopefully we will be able to share something shortly,” Burkett said.
No further information is available as agents with SBI continue the investigation. This article will be updated on our website, www.lowndessignal.com, as new information becomes available.
