A fatal shooting in Georgiana claimed the life of a Butler County man Wednesday.

Georgiana Police Chief Jeremy Peagler confirmed Wednesday evening that a shooting in Georgiana had claimed the life of a Butler County man. Not much else is known at this time, as the investigation is still under way.

Peagler said he called in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), whose agents are leading the investigation.

“I have turned this investigation over to SBI and so I won’t be the one to be leading this investigation,” Peagler said.

He was able to confirm that a fatal shooting occurred in Georgiana. Just after 8:30 p.m., he and other investigators were still on the scene.

“I’m not going to release any names or give any information or details at this time since I am not the lead investigator,” Peagler confirmed.

No further information is available as agents with SBI continue the investigation. This article will be updated as new information becomes available.
