The Butler County Fair has much to offer the community on Sept. 27-30. The theme “Help bring back the things that matter – Agriculture, education, community” is at the heart of the week’s activity line-up and one of the fun events the Butler County Fair Association (BCFA) hopes residents will get their hands involved in is the Taste of Butler Bake Auction on Sept. 28.
“As a group we are excited to offer this new event and curious to see how the community responds to it,” said BCFA Chairman Michelle Styron. “Everyone knows a talented baker who has a recipe to which none others compare. We are hopeful that many of those treats will be placed in the Taste of Butler bake auction.”
The auction features three entry groups: junior youth (Kindergarten to sixth-grade), senior youth (seventh-grade to 12th-grade), and adult (19-years-old and up).
The baked good categories include cakes not iced or decorated, cakes that are iced or decorated, pies, cookies, and brownies. No items requiring refrigeration may be entered.
Items will be auctioned off by age group and category on Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m. Bakers with the highest bid in each category will earn a blue ribbon. Exhibitors will also receive half of the bid amount for the item.
Rebecca McCarter, owner of Mimi’s Cakes, said she is excited for this baking opportunity within the community.
“I’ve given cakes for benefits and donations, but I’ve never done an auction,” McCarter said. “It will be fun to see what people will bid. Count me in!”
To enter the auction, bakers must complete and submit an entry form by Sept. 13, and no late entries will be accepted. To receive a form email Michelle Styron at michelle@camelliacom.com, call her at 334-662-7923, or pick up a form at 606 E. Commerce Street in Greenville.
