The City of Greenville has launched a billboard campaign to attract visitors to the downtown area. The billboard, which is located just north of Greenville on Interstate Highway 65 at mile marker 131.1 (right before Exit 130), highlights the Camellia City’s historic downtown, shopping, dining, and entertainment features.
Mayor Dexter McLendon said the city and chamber have worked for months on this project and are extremely excited for the opportunity to highlight and promote the downtown area. “This billboard placement is a successful first step into interstate advertisement and bringing visitors to our historic downtown, and we’re interested in continuing to build upon that,” he said.
Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce director, Tracy Salter, said that oftentimes, downtown areas are looked over by folks passing through on the interstate mainly due to its distance from the exit.
“We hope the billboard campaign will increase downtown awareness and visibility,” she said. “The goal is to make sure that folks getting off the interstate on our two Greenville exits know how wonderful our downtown area is and know how to get there.”
