The Greenville Parks and Recreation department has announced the reopening of its swimming pool for the summer season. The public pool is located at 177 Academy Drive, a space formerly occupied by the YMCA of Greenville.

“We are excited to offer the pool and its amenities to families in our area,” said Director Jerome Harris. “I encourage you to bring the kids out to enjoy some fun in the sun, as we continue to offer more activities for the youth.”

The pool will be open Monday-Saturday each day from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 p.m- 5 p.m. Admission for the pool is $5 per person, and visitors can swim all day. The pool is fully staffed with certified lifeguards to ensure safety but parental supervision of all children under the age of 12 is required.

Swimming lessons will also be offered and registration is underway for the first session, which begins June 12. Lessons cost $60, which will cover six 45 minute classes. Swimming lessons  taught by experienced instructors, will be safety focused and offer a progressive curriculum. Youth and adult classes are available.

Pool Manager Laveda Gray said, “The pool offers big fun for the whole family. I love that our pool has a beachside entryway at our play area, which allows easy access to our younger swimmers. We have shaded areas and lounging equipment, for complete relaxation. Our concession stand is stocked with cool refreshments, and our staff is ready to help you enjoy summer. It’s like a mini vacation without having to go far.”

Both Harris and Gray said that the turn out this season has been great.

“We are looking to keep the pool open year round,” Harris said. “As long as the weather permits, we will be open.”
