Crowne Health Care is bringing more capacity to its Greenville nursing home and preparing to enhance resident care with the expansion of the facility’s memory care unit.

In November 2022, expansion broke ground and according to administrator Crystal McInvale, is expected to be complete by the end of April.

“Not only will our expanded unit give us more space to care for more patients with memory care issues, we will also be able to provide new and additional activities for those patients, which is so beneficial,” McInvale said. 

The expansion increases the facility’s capacity from 10 semi-private rooms to 20. This addition opens room for Crowne to care for double the number of patients and brings with it a new recreational area for residents to enjoy.

In addition to more rooms and recreational facilities, the 1,300-square feet expansion includes a large outdoor courtyard with a patio featuring both covered and uncovered portions allowing space for residents to enjoy time outside in a secure area.

“We are going to have raised garden beds, a walking area, some rocking chairs and more in the outdoor space,” McInvale said. “Being able to provide a safe and secure area for our residents to spend time outside is important to us because it is so great for those suffering with memory care issues.”

According to Crowne representative Carlen Montgomery, the indoors expansion gives residents a larger recreational area for dining and activities, such as games and crafts.

Memory care unit staff are specially trained in caring for residents with memory care issues, Montgomery noted. These staff members focus on activities to negate associated behaviors.

“Our staff members are amazing,” said McInvale. “They work so hard each and every day to not only take care of our memory care residents’ daily needs, but also to provide an environment where our residents are able to enjoy a variety of activities, which helps our residents so, so much.

The facility will host an open house following the project’s completion.
