A midnight altercation at the Waffle House in Greenville on Thursday ended with an unidentified man being treated for injuries and another, Xavier Shanklin, 21, facing charges.
According to Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, Shanklin was charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits and disorderly conduct after firing shots in the air during an argument between a Waffle House employee, another individual, and a customer.
“Shortly before midnight a customer at the Waffle House began to complain about the service he received,” Lovvorn said. “An employee of the Waffle House along with another individual got into an argument with the customer. This led to a physical altercation inside the Waffle House between three people.”
During the altercation, one of the involved individuals ran outside to his vehicle and fired a gun into the air. Lovvorn said this caused people to begin leaving the area.
“No one was shot at,” Lovvorn said. “Officers arrived a short time later and charged 21-year-old Xavier Shanklin with discharging a firearm within the city limits and disorderly conduct. An investigation into the incident is still ongoing and additional charges are possible.”
One individual sustained injuries during the altercation but was treated and released. At the time of the report, no individuals involved wanted to pursue charges, Lovvorn said.
