Alabama’s 17th annual sales tax holiday is here again.

The holiday will take place the third week of July, the 15-17, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ending at midnight on Sunday. The sales tax holiday is a way parents can save money by taking advantage of the tax-free back to school savings while purchasing clothes and supplies.

This year’s savings include clothing priced at $100 or less per article, certain school supplies priced at $50 or less per item, books that are less than $30, and, of course, tablets, laptops, computers, and printers valued at $750 or less.

“The sales tax holiday offers parents a way to save on back-to-school needs,” Rick Brown, the Alabama Retail Association president, said. “Saving money for consumers while stimulating sales for stores is what this weekend is all about.”

But school supplies are not the only items on offer this weekend. This tax-free holiday has something for just about everybody.

Shoppers can also purchase diapers tax-free, and certain art supplies are also available but check with the retailer on these items to ensure that what you need is included on the list.

Office supplies are also on offer, including printer ink and flash drives, printer paper and note pads.

Not all items are tax-free. For a complete list of items included in the tax-exempt holiday and counties participating, please visit https://www.revenue.alabama.gov/sales-use/sales-tax-holidays/.
