Ricky L. Catrett

Ricky L. Catrett, passed away on September 10, 2020, in Brantley, Alabama. He is predeceased by his parents, James P. Catrett and Remona Adams Catrett; his paternal grandparents, James T. Catrett and Odis Betterton Catrett; his maternal grandparents, J. C. Adams and Cassie Hall Adams; his brother-in-law, Martin John Campbell. He is survived by his only child, Niki Linton, and his grandson, Colton Patch; his brother, Perry Catrett and Ashley Oglesby Catrett of Luverne; his sister, Pamela Catrett Campbell of Brantley. He also leaves behind four nieces, Hollie Worley Reed (Charles) Alexandria, Va.; Courtney Rebekah Nelson of Athens, Ga.: Cassidy Catrett, and Cameron Catrett, both of Luverne; and three grandnephews, James Campbell Nelson, Charles Ludlow Nelson, and John Adams Reed.

Ricky attended Enterprise State Community College after graduating from Brantley High in 1973. He went on to work at Fort Rucker landing fields for many years. Then, his last work was a truck driver.

Ricky was a great reader and lover of books. He had the utmost respect for veterans and their service for his country. He particularly loved helicopters and planes. He was a die-hard Crimson Tide fan. He loved art and photography. He was the person who always remembered the details: your birthday, your favorite color, your favorite food.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14, at 2 p.m. in the churchyard of Brunson Chapel UMC. All are invited and encouraged to social distance and wear masks.

Timothy Earl Mack

Mr. Timothy Earl Mack, 65, a resident of Troy, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Troy Health & Rehabilitation on Monday, November 9, 2020. A graveside service will be held for Mr. Mack on Thursday, November 12, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Travis Johnson officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Mack was a proud 1973 graduate of Brantley High School. He was a big sports fan, especially baseball. On Saturdays in the fall, he could be found cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. He also enjoyed singing along with any Christian music.

Mr. Mack was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Earl Mack; grandparents, Alcus and Alice Mack and Brazil & Ethel Williams; and uncle, Willie Roy Williams. He is survived by his two children, Sarah Mack and Charlie Mack; three grandchildren, Jaydon Mack, Lawson Warrick, and Paisley Mack; his mother, Wilma Joyce Williams Mills; and sister, Lynne Mack (Jerry Armstrong).

Active pallbearers were Charlie Mack, Lomax Kimbro, Andy Kimbro, Todd Johnson, Ashley Kilcrease, and Dwight Layton.

Bobbie W. Rhodes

Mrs. Bobbie W. Rhodes, 99, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully at the Lake Haven Assisted Facility on Saturday, November 7, 2020. A graveside service for Mrs. Rhodes was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, in Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Brother Jason Holladay delivering the eulogy and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. 

Mrs. Rhodes grew up in Monroeville, Alabama, and graduated from high school there. Growing up in the town made famous by author, Harper Lee, allowed her to not only know Lee very well, but also the many townspeople who became the basis for characters in Lee’s famous novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” After high school, Mrs. Rhodes went on to attend Massey Draughn Business School and worked as a bank teller for many years. After marrying the love of her life, Robert W. Rhodes Sr, they would move to Luverne to raise their family and become cherished members of their community. She joined the choir at Luverne United Methodist Church, and sang her praises to the Lord with them for several decades.

She was a woman of many talents. She excelled with her cooking and baking, and her family considered everything she made as the best there was. She also enjoyed reading, listening to her favorite jazz & big band singers, traveling and cheering on the Auburn Tigers. She was especially talented in her creative pursuits, from pottery and painting to sewing, knitting, & crocheting. Over the years, many a child went to bed with one of her tooth fairy pillows or carried one down the aisle for a wedding.

Mrs. Rhodes was affectionately known as “Nants Mama,” thanks to her first grandson who was attempting to call her “Nancy’s Mama,” and the name stuck for over 55 years. There was nothing she cherished more in this world than her family. She was fortunate to live a long & full life which allowed her to enjoy not only her grandchildren, but also her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She could entertain them for hours with stories from her almost 100 years of life. She was never shy about sharing her opinions and wisdom with them either, so they learned many valuable lessons over the years. She was beloved by everyone who knew her, and things will never be the same now that she is gone. However, her loved ones will cherish all those memories they made over a lifetime with her, and take comfort in knowing that she has reunited with her husband in Heaven with their Lord.

Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Rhodes Sr; two grandsons, James Robert Rhodes and Josh Brandon Holladay; her parents, Julius Sidney & Georgia Byrd Wiggins; and two sisters, Tina W. Hare and Mary W. Speer.

She is survived by her three children, Becky (Pat) Watkins, Bill (DiAnne) Rhodes, and Nancy (Pat) Andrews; seven grandchildren, Rob (Jenny) Watkins, Mike (Carmen) Watkins, Amanda (Matt) Kovich, Mark (Amy) Rhodes, Jason (Ashley) Holladay, Carrie (David) Whetstine, and Justin Andrews; thirteen great-grandchildren, Misty, Sarah, Rachel, Andy, & Jake Watkins, John Robert, Anna Katherine, Jeremiah, & Josiah Holladay, Sara & Matthew Kovich, Ben Rhodes, and Vada Andrews; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Jason Holladay, Mike Watkins, Mark Rhodes, Pat Andrews, John Robert Holladay, Jeremiah Holladay, and Justin Andrews. Honorary pallbearers were Josiah Holladay, Benjamin Rhodes, Matthew Kovich, Jake Watkins, and Andy Watkins.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Lake Haven Assisted Facility for all of the special care and attention they gave Mrs. Rhodes during her years there.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Lake Haven or one’s favorite charity.

Edna Ruth Beasley Horne

Mrs. Edna Ruth Beasley Horne, 80, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 8, 2020. A graveside service for Mrs. Horne was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, in Danielville Cemetery with John Dickinson officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Horne had a deep, abiding love for her family and friends. She cherished every single one of them and the time she was able to spend with them. She was also a devoted member of the Rock Hill Church of Christ, and treasured her church family there. She personified the gentleness and generosity of spirit that all Christians should exhibit to the world. She knew no hatred, but believed in the power of love and kindness shown to everyone. Above all, she was a precious and dearly-loved mother & grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her, but they are comforted in the knowledge that she is now safe in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Horne was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Horne; parents, Guy & Ida Mae Broadway Beasley; and three siblings, Thomas Beasley, Guynese Eiland, and Betty Ann Clark. She is survived by her four beloved children, Donald (Lee) Nichols, Ronnie Nichols, JoAnn (Paul) Allen, and Donnie (Ginger) Nichols; eight grandchildren, Angela Newbrough, Heather Wright, Andrew Nichols, Jana Shelton, Paige Kersey, Jacob Free, Gracie Free, and Savannah Nichols; and two sisters, Annette Chandler and Sally (Paul) Creel.

Active pallbearers were Willie Hardy, Todd Broderway, Mitchie Davis, Hayden Shelton, Terry Kersey, and Paul Creel.

Demea Davis Mercer

Mrs. Demea Davis Mercer, 54, a lifelong resident of Highland Home, Alabama, passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 9, at the Highland Home branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with President Steve NeSmith officiating. Interment followed in Sardis Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mrs. Mercer was a proud 1984 graduate of Highland Home High School, and later continued her education at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. She would go on to a thriving career with the State of Alabama for over 25 years, working in administration for the Department of Transportation. She was also a lifelong, dedicated member of the Highland Home branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She had a true servant’s heart, as she spent many years faithfully in service to both her church and her beloved community. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was a role model to both her family and all who knew her. Words cannot express how much she will be missed, but they will cherish every single memory made with her over their lifetimes.

Mrs. Mercer was preceded in death by her father, Earl Lavon Davis, and grandparents, Foster L. & Essie Lee Beasley Davis, Ray Arnold, and Mary M. Broadus. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 30 years, Buddy Mercer; their three children, Lea (Jerome) Mercer-Harrod, Stan (Heather) Mercer, and Shanna (David) King; ten grandchildren, Jeremy Harrod, Jalen Harrod, Amber Turner, Kayla Turner, Brandon Noel, Lillian Mercer, Makayla Mercer, Jace White Eagle, Eli Mercer, and Chayton White Eagle; her mother, Linda Marie Davis; four siblings, Lavon (Wronda) Davis, Ryan Davis (Alice Pilgreen), Brooke (Chris) Smith, and Karlin (Tim) Wright; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were Allen Young, Mike Adams, Stan Mercer, Quint McCoy, Jackson Davis, and Braeden Smith.

Troy Michael Morgan

Mr. Troy Michael Morgan, 51, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away at Baptist Medical Center East on Thursday, November 5, 2020. A funeral service for Mr. Morgan was held at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, November 10, with Dr. John Ed Mathison officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. A graveside service followed in Vernledge Cemetery in Luverne, Alabama at 1 p.m..

Troy was born with spina bifida, but refused to let it hold him back from living his life to the fullest. He received his associate’s degree from John Patterson and then spent 20 years working for the federal government with Montgomery Military Entrance Processing or “MEPS.” He was a much beloved and valued member of the team during his time there.

In his free time, he was an avid sports lover, as well as being a No.1  fan of Troy University sports. He also enjoyed adding to his prized baseball card collection. Troy was also a dedicated member of Frazer United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed worshipping his Lord along with his church family. Above all, he will be dearly remembered for his generous and loving spirit by all those who knew him, especially by the nieces who were the light of his life. Though his loved ones will miss him terribly, they take comfort in the fact that he is now walking with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven.

Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his father, Claude R. “Mike” Morgan Jr., and his grandparents, Claude R. Sr. and Sarah Morgan and James and Jimmie Lois Johnson. He is survived by his devoted mother, Janice Johnson Morgan; his brother & sister-in-law, Justin Rutledge and Cameron Morgan; his three adored nieces, Mary Rutledge Morgan, Sarah James Morgan, and Haley Michael Morgan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Active pallbearers were Ashley Johnson, Chris Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Tobey Powell, Tyler Powell, Jonathan Bagents, Jacob Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Gary Johnson, Christopher Wright, Tony Walker, and Lance Claybrook.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made to Frazer UMC’s Children’s Ministry or Vernledge Cemetery Fund.
