Ms. Suzanne Jordan, 70, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 4, 2020.
Suzy led an adventurous life in her youth. She spent many years working as a river guide for whitewater rafting expeditions and as a backcountry guide for SOBEK and Outward Bound in the United States, South America, and Africa. Her whitewater rafting expeditions consisted of guiding groups on many rivers in the western states, including, but not limited to, the Colorado River through Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Middle Fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, the San Juan & Green Rivers in Utah, the Rogue River in Oregon, and the Tuolumne, Stanislaus, American Rivers in California. During that time, she worked for the American River Touring Association (ARTA) and the Arizona Raft Adventures (AZRA) on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon where she was instrumental in establishing paddle boat trips.
Suzy eventually decided to travel abroad, where she worked for SOBEK in Zambia on the Zambezi River where she established whitewater rafting below Victoria Falls. She also conducted backcountry river trips on the Omo River in Africa. She then returned to the United States, where she worked on the Copper River in Alaska, and also hiked the Brooks Range there. Following all of her adventures, Suzy then settled down in Montgomery, Alabama, where she began a second career in teaching and managing preschools there. She adored little children, and was dedicated to helping them get a good start in life. Suzy was always easy to spot in a crowd with her flaming red hair. She also had an uninhibited laugh and an exuberant attitude, which she brought to everything she did. She was beloved by all those whose lives she touched.
Ms. Jordan was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald & Sarah Jane Jordan. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Daniel Jerry Jordan & Kathleen Clement, and numerous cousins, including Dana Free and Dianne (Mike) Weaver.
