Mr. George J. “Jack” Jones, 76, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama on Sunday, June 28, 2020. A memorial service for Mr. Jones was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, at the First Baptist Church of Luverne with Brother Clay Crum officiating.
Mr. Jones was devoted to his service at the First Baptist Church of Luverne, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons for several terms as well as church treasurer for 38 years. He graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Agronomy & Soils. He would go on to work with the National Resource Conservation Service, which is part of the United States Department of Agriculture, as a District Conservationist for 42 years before his retirement. His love for the beauty of the outdoors also manifested itself in the pride he took in taking care of his yard. Mr. Jones was also a long-time member of the Luverne Rotary Club. He served as a past president, and he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, their highest honor.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Pearl Davidson Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Morris Jones; their son & daughter-in-law, Brandon & Dayna Jones; three grandchildren, Hannah Grant, Chris Jones, and Jaiden Jones; great-grandson, Logan Grant; brother, Max (Sharon) Jones; and several nieces & nephews.
Active pallbearers were Jimmy Massey, John Knighten, Greg Green, Mark Simmons, Calvin Bodiford, and Brett Green. The Luverne Rotary Club served as honorary pallbearers.
