The continuing rise in COVID-19 cases has led the Butler County Historical and Genealogical Society to cancel its next planned quarterly meeting.
“We have made the difficult decision to cancel the historical meeting scheduled for Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m.,” said BCHGS president Barbara Middleton.
“We feel that COVID-19 would cause some people to decide not to come out. There’s really not enough space to socially distance where we meet at City Hall.”
However, plans are to move July’s scheduled program on the Alabama Women’s Suffrage Centennial to the fall quarterly meeting, set for Sunday, October 25 at 2 p.m. at Greenville City Hall.
In the meantime, Middleton says the BCHGS is continuing to work behind the scenes on research and putting together the organization’s quarterly publication, which should be mailed out to members before the end of July.
