A Celebration of Life Service was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020, at Johnson Funeral Home for Mrs. Shirley Nutt Burkett, affectionately known as “Mamaw,” 84, who passed away in Tuscumbia on Thursday, Feb. 27. Burial followed in the Providence Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastors Bill Tucker, Eric Jackson and Lane Simmons officiated.

Mrs. Burkett loved the Lord and her family. She and her deceased husband, Willis, affectionately known as “Strawberry,” were in the insurance business for more than 30 years. She loved working in her flower beds and was happiest when she was with her family and her beloved Yorkie, Bear.

Her husband, Willis “Strawberry” Burkett; parents, Jewel Nutt and Clara “Dutchie” Nutt Carter; stepfather, George Carter; daughter, Donna Stephenson; son, David Baker; brother, James Nutt; sisters, June Bowen, Mary Sharp and Bobby Shoemaker and stepbrother, Phillip Carter, preceded Mrs. Burkett in death.

Survivors include, sons, Terry (Patti) Burkett and Danny (Cheryl) Baker; son-in-law, Steve Stephenson; daughter, Sherry (Andy) Thomas; stepbrother, William (Shirley) Carter; stepsister, Judy (Roy) Moore; sister-in-law, Barbara Carter; granddaughters, Christy (Dick) Newton, April Ivey, Ashley (Cody) Johnston, Jessica (Jimmy) Burcham, Callan Burkett and Lori (Brandon) Glover; grandsons, Natji Baker, Hakan (Amy) Baker, Corey Stephenson (Liz Ayers), Steven (Tanya) Stephenson and Tyler Thomas; 20 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Hunter Jackson, Nic Newton, Tyler Newton, Steven Stephenson, Jake Burdette and Jimmy Burcham. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Hollyhand, Cody Johnston, Corey Stephenson and Dick Newton.
