Hattie Jean Talley, a native of Greenville and a resident of Spanish Fort, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020, at the age of 84. She was born Jan. 20, 1936.
Hattie was one of the original telephone operators for Greenville. She was known as a “transplant Texan;” living in Harker Heights, Texas for 30 years. She enjoyed caring for her children and it was not unusual to have up to 30 neighborhood children playing in her yard at any time. She enjoyed baking and cake decorating, and baked wedding cakes for her children and other family members. She loved music and dancing and always found pleasure in giving to others.
Her father, Robert Eugene Talley; mother, Hattie Inez Lewis Talley; daughter, Frankie Kay Pressley; two brothers, Gerald Hansel Talley and Herman Hershel Talley; James Albert Lewis; and her grandmother, Hattie Helen Holliday Lewis, preceded Hattie in death.
Survivors include, her children, Robert Morris Wasden, Terry Glenn Wasden, Tony Lynn Wasden, Tammy Kimberly Wood, Lisa Karen Kauder, Katina “Kandy” Hope Lawley and Henry Keith Wasden; 25 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; siblings, Larry Joe Talley, Autrey Levi Talley, Linda Gil Defee, Emily Sue Oswald and Shelby Jane Malone; special friends, Valenecia Omer and family; extended family, The Perines, as well as other family members and friends.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne. The family received friends for a time of visitation at 1 p.m.
