Funeral services for Mr. Hamp Cook, 86, of Hattiesburg, Miss., were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg. Interment followed in the Lee Family Cemetery in Purvis, Miss. Dr. David Jussely and the Rev. Knox Baird officiated. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday, Dec. 27, at the First Presbyterian Church.
Charles Hampton “Hamp” Cook made his mark on football early on at the University of Southern Mississippi. Those championship years formed his future, not only as a coach at USM, but as a pro scout with the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles. Hamp was a faithful member of the M Club at USM and the First Presbyterian Church of Hattiesburg. His greatest joys in life, however, came while spending time with his family.
His beloved wife of 59 years, Joyce “Tinkey” Cook; his parents, Louis and Grace Cook; his sister, Dorothea Bennett, and his brother, Kenneth Cook, preceded Hamp in death.
Survivors include his children, Chuck (Carla) Cook of Sumrall, Miss., Tracey Pineda Dickens of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Kyle (Suzanne) Cook of Hattiesburg, Miss.; his grandchildren, Amber Pineda, Kayla (Adam) Nicolosi, Cori Cook, Carley Cook, Laken Pineda, Colby Cook, Conner Cook, Hayes Dickens and Abi Cook; his great grandchildren, Olivia and Grace Nicolosi, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the M Club Foundation at USM or to the Community of Christ Church of Georgiana.
