Shirley May Gallagher
Mrs. Shirley May Gallagher, 80, a resident of Luverne, Alabama, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2019.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Gallagher at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, at South Luverne Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gallagher was a beloved member of her community in Luverne for many, many years. Luverne High School students fondly remember the days when she served them tea in the cafeteria.
She was also well-known as one of the “Bread Ladies” in Luverne, because of delicious homemade bread and pastries that she distributed around town as gifts to the people she knew and loved.
Small, thoughtful gestures like her baked goods did more to uplift people than she realized.
She never expected anything in return, which endeared her even more to those in her life.
She was also a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She will be dearly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Mrs. Gallagher was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Marion Gallagher; parents, Thomas Sr and Lillian Sloper Middleton; and three siblings, Thomas Middleton Jr, Kenneth Middleton, and Joyce Middleton Knott.
She is survived by her seven children, Angel (Bill) Bundy, Belinda (William) Green, Sheri (Joe) Loy, Mickey (Bobby Henderson) Baxley, John (Suezanne) Stovall Jr, Rodney Gallagher, and Brian Gallagher; thirteen grandchildren, Bruce (Tammy) Knott), Kenneth (Betty) Knott, Lisa Knott, Teri Wilgus, Tommy Wilgus, Steven Loy, Brandi Loy, Dennis (Helen) Bega, Mitchell Stovall, Jade Stovall, Johnny Bergans, Kennedy Tome, and Austin (Samantha) Brown; eleven great-grandchildren, Conner, Alexis, Dylan, Noah, C.J., Kennedy, Nathan, Chayton, Nathan, and Colton; two sisters, Betty Middleton Pippin and Judi (Alton) Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
