A tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico could bring heavy rain to Butler County later this week.
Butler County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Kris Ware said the National Weather Service is predicting an 80 percent chance of tropical cyclone development within the Wednesday through Friday time frame. The system is moving westward and could impact all of South Alabama.
“Potential impacts for the area at this time include the possibility for heavy rainfall especially over the southern portion of the area and a high risk of rip currents beginning Thursday,” a National Weather Service briefing statement reported.
The National Weather Service and Butler County EMA are continuing to monitor the situation and provide updates.
