Fire Chief Harry Driggers of the Brantley Fire Department was awarded a general project grant from Wiregrass RC&D. Chief Driggers applied for the grant early in 2018 and completed the project this April. Grant recipients have until August 1, 2019 to complete projects. Chief Driggers, who has been with the Brantley Fire Department for 34 years, recognized a need not only for the fire house, but also for the community. The fire station has two new roll-up doors allowing the first responders to depart for emergency calls more efficiently. Other items provided by the grant include 1000 feet of hose, five radios and two chainsaws. The equipment will allow for better response during emergencies and severe weather recovery.
“If it were not for Wiregrass RC&D, we would not have the doors, hoses, radios or chainsaws. I am grateful for Wiregrass RC&D for partnering with Brantley and other communities in South Alabama,” said Harry Driggers, Fire Chief at the Brantley Fire Department.
Wiregrass RC&D is a 501©3 non-profit organization whose mission of helping local communities meet local needs would not be possible without the support of the Alabama State legislators and community partnerships.
