The Butler County Education Retirees Association has a request from the community – fill the bus.

Each year during the State of Alabama’s Tax Free Weekend, the BCERA hosts a Fill the Bus event in front of the Greenville Walmart Supercenter.

This year’s Tax Free Weekend is July 20-22, according to Wayne Boswell, president of the BCERA. A Butler County school bus will be parked in front of the Greenville Walmart each of the three days from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Boswell urges citizens to help fill it with supplies.

“We will be collecting items for classroom teachers and school nurses,” he said. “People can go into the store, buy items and drop them off to us. They can also give us monetary donations. We accept any donation and it will be used toward Fill the Bus.”

Boswell said all the items are taken to the Butler Board of Education and will be sorted throughout the week July 23.

“We’ll send the appropriate items to the teachers that need them,” he said. “Obviously, we’re not going to send a box of crayons to a senior English teacher. Each item will go to the right place.”

Tax Free Weekend includes any products that can be used for school such as clothes, school supplies, calculators, cleaning products and more.
