Mrs. Doris Gandy Gibson, 100, of Somerset Court, Hartwell, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 at her home.

Born on Aug. 4, 1917 in Greenville Ala., she was the daughter of the late Walter Herbert Gandy and Eula Ponder Gandy. Doris and her husband, Joe, relocated to Lake Hartwell from Atlanta in 1977 and enjoyed living on the lake for many years. She was a former member of the Hartwell Golf Club and was a member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gibson was a homemaker, enjoyed playing Bridge and China painting.

Survivors include her daughter: Debbie Gibson of Hartwell, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Mattie Boles Gibson of Monroe, N.C.; four grandchildren, Barry (Clellie) Gibson of Dacula Ga., Danny Pickens of Athens Ga., Christy (Scott) Smith of Concord, N.C., and Lisa Renee (Trey) Waldrop of Freeport, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren and a sister, Eva Rae Speed of Fairfield Ala. Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her parents; her high school sweetheart and husband of 75 years, Joseph Riley Gibson; her son, Joseph Wayne Gibson; three brothers, Walter Herbert Gandy Jr., Robert “Bob” Gandy and Herman Gandy; and three sisters, Lillian Autry, Evelyn Dulan and Mary Wilkinson.

A private crypt-side service was held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Howell St., Hartwell GA 30643, the American Parkinson Disease Association, Georgia Chapter, PO Box 49416, Atlanta, GA 30359 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Georgia Chapter, 950 East Paces Ferry Road NE, Suite 110, Atlanta, GA 30326.
