Troy Regional Medical Center to unveil new behavioral care center for seniors

Troy Regional Medical Center continues to address the needs of Troy, Alabama and surrounding communities with the completion of the Troy Regional Senior Behavioral Care Center. The $2.3 million expansion project is located on second floor of Troy Regional Medical Center and includes 18 in-patient beds, 8,700 square feet of renovated space and will be staffed with 18 new employees.

Ronnie Dean, Chief Executive Officer, said, “The Troy Hospital Health Care Authority initiated planning for the Senior Behavioral Care Center in the fall of 2016. The full array of services offered by the Senior Behavioral Care Center will signficantly improve the landscape of behavioral healthcare in our community.”

Dean said, “Inpatient behavioral health care of senior adults will be provided in a safe, modern, comfortable and secure environment especially designed for the safe and effective care of behavioral health patients.”

Sherrill Crow, Chairman of The Troy Hospital Health Care Authority, said, “We are excited to grow needed health care services in our community. The Troy Regional Medical Center is a treasured community asset that provides a wide array of services and our goal is to continue to add to our capabilities to meet the growing health care demands of our region.”

The Troy Regional Senior Behavioral Care Center will treat patients suffering from a wide range of behavioral health disorders. By coordinating care among a diverse team of professionals including nurses, social workers, counselors and care coordinators who specialize in geriatric psychiatric care, the team will address the needs of patients and families using the very best standards of care.

“There are a limited number of facilities like this that are equipped to provide in-patient medical and mental health services in a well integrated, in-patient care setting,” Dr. John Strunk, Psychiatrist and Medical Director for the Troy Regional Senior Behavioral Care Center stated. “This community and the areas we serve have shown a need for this and we are excited to be able to serve that need.”

Troy Regional Medical Center is a 97 bed acute care facility located in Troy, Alabama and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission. Troy Regional Medical Center serves Pike County and the surrounding area and provides specialty services including emergency medicine, orthopedics, general surgery, women’s services, hematology/oncology, pain management and neurology.
