Welton Carter

Welton Carter, 70, a resident of Greenville, Ala. passed away on Friday, Dec. 29th, 2018.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5th, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Carter Rice & West Funeral Home, 10 Chalet Drive, Greenville, Ala. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 starting at 12:00 noon at Lomax Hannon, 725 S. Conecuh Street, Greenville, Ala. with Rev. Dr. Claude Shuford officiating. Carter Rice & West Funeral Home directing.

Welton was born on January 7, 1947 to the union of the later Mr. Booker T. and Alice Tate Carter. He was a 1966 graduate of Greenville Training School in Greenville, Ala. He worked and retired from the International Paper Company after 37 years of professional employment in Chapman, Ala.

He was a very committed and active member of Poplar Spring African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Having been a member for over fifty years, Welton served faithfully in many organizations: Trustee Board, Ministry of Kindness treasurer, and Leader of Leaders. He was always striving to make things better at the church. He was community person, helping others by using his money and skills.

Welton was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arbelia Carter Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife, Elouise Carter; four children: Alicia (Abdul) Carter-Seraaj of Montgomery, Ala., Rick Carter of Montgomery, Ala., Erica Jones of Troy, Ala. and Nicole Lane of Hixon, Tn.; ten grandchildren; two sisters: Clarine (Jonathan) Fields of Montgomery, AL and Willene (Willie) Cane of Portland, Ore.; two brothers: Booker T. (Selena) Carter, Jr. of Los Angeles, Cal. and Albert C. (Vicky) Carter of Harbor City, Cal.; very devoted friends: Patrick Davidson, Pa Pa’s baby – Tiara P. Davidson and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rogers; and a host of nieces, nephews, God children, other relatives, church family and cousins.
