Effie Louise Singleton Davis

Effie Louise Singleton Davis, a longtime resident of Gulf Breeze, Fla., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, with family by her side. Effie was born in Greenville, Ala., on Jan. 21, 1930 to Archie and Edith Singleton. She was the fourth of five children. Effie graduated from Greenville High School in 1947 and attended Judson College for Women in Marion, Ala. She moved to Pensacola, Fla., where she married William E. (Bill) Davis Sr. of Beulah in 1949. Effie was known to many as “Sally” Davis. She was the mother of six children: Sally Jane, Bill Jr., Ramona, Karen, Paula and Kevin. Effie worked for the Escambia County Property Appraiser office as a microphotography records supervisor, where she was awarded the State of Florida Senator’s Proclamation and Escambia County Proclamation for her exemplary work of 24 years. She was also a valued volunteer for many years with the American Heart Association, Escambia County Chapter, and the many PTAs associated with her children’s schools.
Effie is preceded in death by her son, Kevin Michael Davis; her parents, Archie and Edith Singleton; her husband of 40 years, William E. (Bill) Davis; and her siblings, Ed Singleton, Philip Singleton, Frances Singleton Cranford and Ben Singleton. Effie has many in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of which she adored.
Effie is survived by her children and their spouses, Sally Jane Davis Spencer of Bagdad, Fla., William E. (Bill) Davis Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., Ramona Lynn Davis Szuch (Kenny) of Pensacola, Fla., Karen Bishop Davis Gray (Kevin) of Kyle, Texas, and Paula Violet Davis Porto (Kerry) of Johns Creek, Ga.
Effie has 15 grandchildren: Summer Spencer King, Devin Spencer, William E. (Trey) Davis III, Alana Davis Williams, Sarajane Szuch Lane, Harrison Szuch, Georgia Szuch Parker, Logan Szuch, Caroline Szuch VanValkenburgh, Preston Szuch, Bruce Padilla II, Sheri Padilla, Katelynn Porto, Mitchell Porto and Annamarie Porto.
Effie has 14 great grandchildren with one on the way: Courtney, Kaylee and Kenna King; Isabella, Tyler, and Elizabeth Spencer; Luke and Nate Davis; Donovan Szuch; Gavin Lane; Ariel Parker, Analyn Szuch, Maverick VanValkenburgh and Taylor Metz (Padilla).
The family wishes to thank Emerald Coast Hospice, Watermark of Gulf Breeze, Gulf Breeze Hospital and Levett Delcambre for the comfort and care they provided in her final days.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 1 p.m. until the memorial service begins at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 at Harper Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL, 2017.
