Mrs. Gladys Imogene Nichols Sport, 85, a resident of Luverne, Ala., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017. Funeral services for Mrs. Sport were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, from the Chapel of Turners Funeral Home with Rev. Malcolm Butts and Rev. Charles Sims officiating. Interment followed in Darien Cemetery with Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Sport was a beloved fixture in the Luverne community throughout her lifetime, spending many years working at Luverne Bank & Trust, later Colonial Bank. She enjoyed her retirement years as grandmother to five beautiful girls. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Mrs. Sport was preceded in death by her parents, John D. and Victoria M. Nichols, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, John M. and Dorothy Nichols and Oris Lifford “Perk” and Mary Nichols. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles M. Sport Sr., two sons, Charles M. (Lisa) Sport Jr. and John R. (Kim) Sport, five granddaughters, Lindsay Nicole Sport, Megan Alicia Sport (Mitch) Florence, Stevi Chase Sport (Kyle) Shaw, Lacey Rae Sport, and Marley Madison Sport, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Active pallbearers were Charles M. Sport Jr., John R. Sport, Douglas Brown, Mitch Florence, Wesley Jeffcoat, Billy Nichols, Johnny “Chipper” Nichols, and Kyle Shaw. Charles M. Sport Sr., Lindsay Sport, Megan Florence, Stevi Shaw, Lacey Sport, Marley Sport, Joe R. Sport, Terry Sport, Robert Sport, Jimmy Sport, Richard Sport, Ed Beasley, J.B. Clary, Ray Hilburn, Billy King, and Tom Shockley served as honorary pallbearers. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Darien Cemetery Fund, c/o Anita West, 509 New Harmony Road, Luverne, Alabama 36049.
