Haywood S. Hartley, 86, of Cape Coral, Fla. passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. He was born June 12, 1930, in Greenville, Ala., to Frank Marion Hartley and Evie Lee Adams Hartley.

Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruby Beasley, Evelyn Knox and Jeanette Hartley; and brother Joe Hartley. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Christine “Chris” Hartley; daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Kay Hartley Chavis (Tony); grandsons, Dodd Skipper (Sheri) and Matthew Osterhout; great-granddaughter, April Skipper; brother, Jerry Hartley (Harriet); and sisters, Minnie Webb (Edward) and Barbara-Ann Lowery (Melvin).

He then moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where he and his wife served as managers of a local toy store, much to the delight of his grandson. They then owned Swiss Colony Cheese stores until moving to Cape Coral, Fla., to be with their daughter and grandsons, where Mr. Hartley worked at Publix Supermarkets for 18 years before retiring. One of Mr. Hartley’s most prized possessions was his red 1964 Ford Stepside pickup truck, which he enjoyed driving his grandchildren around town in.
