Clerk, fire chief appointments made official at city council meeting

The Greenville City Council approved the appointment on Monday night of the positions of city clerk and fire chief. Dee Blackmon, who has 17 years experience with the city, was appointment interim city clerk in December following the retirement of longtime city clerk Sue Arnold.
Tim Warrick, who has 17 years of experience with the Greenville Fire Department, was appointed in December following the retirement of fire chief Chad Phillips.
“During this interim period, Dee and Tim have done a great job,” Mayor Dexter McLendon said. “The council, department leaders, city employees and council members all agree that Dee and Tim are the right people to lead us forward.”
During its meeting Monday night, the council also approved the following expenditures:
$1,915.73 to Sunbelt Fire for SCBA Maintenance
$1,332.32 to City Wholesale Grocery for concessions for Beeland and the Sports Complex
$1,066.61 to Ben. E. Keith Southeast for concessions for Beeland and the Sports Complex
$4,005.33 to A D Starr Sports for baseball equipment and medical kits
$1,072 to Jones Car Care for four tires for truck #84
$3,140 to Southern Sand and Gravel for debris removal and excavator and dozier work to the corner of Cahaba and Willow Lane
$3,689.40 to Otto Environmental for 65 – 95-gallon roll-out garbage cans
The council also approved Kenny Perdue to replace Bill Lewis on the WWSB and Downtown Redevelopment Authority due to Lewis’s resignation.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for March 20 at 5:30 p.m.
