I-65 crash claims life of Georgia man

A single-vehicle crash at 5:30 a.m. today, Feb. 26, has claimed the life of a Georgia man and injured two others.

Harshad Patel, 49, of LaGrange was critically injured when the 2012 Kia Optima, in which he was a passenger, left the road, struck a guardrail, traveled back across the roadway and struck a tree. Patel was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Kia, Donnie H. Dancy, 52, also from LaGrange, and a passenger were transported by air to Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan for treatment of critical injuries.

Seatbelts were not in use at the time of the crash.

The crash occurred on Interstate 65 at the 111.80 mile marker, approximately three miles south of Georgiana.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
