Angie Long, a native of Butler County and a graduate of Greenville High School and Troy University, is already a familiar face to Advocate readers, having previously worked as a staff writer and columnist for the paper between 2000 and 2011. She has been a free-lance writer and photographer for the paper since 2014. Long also works as a videographer, photographer and video editor for Pecan Ridge Productions, a video production company owned by her husband Benny and his partner Harry Manning. A lifelong animal lover, she is an active volunteer with the Butler County Humane Society.
“We’re excited about having Angie join our team,” said Tracy Salter, publisher of Greenville Newspapers, LLC. “She’s an excellent writer, and we know she will be an asset not only to our newspaper, but also to our community.”
Long says she is excited to be returning as a full-fledged member of the editorial staff and will be spending some time each week in the office, as well as out and about doing interviews and covering events around the county. “I look forward to covering the local arts and entertainment scene as I have in the past, as well as spotlighting local students and school programs and various community events,” Long says. “And I can’t wait to write more features about the often extraordinary stories of ordinary folks right here in our part of the world. It’s truly a privilege to be able to share these kinds of stories.”
And she already feels at home.
“I find myself already gravitating to my old desk when I am in the office. Jonathan, Tracy and the rest of the staff are great folks with whom to work and it’s just a good fit for me,” Long says with a smile.
