This Saturday, the Crenshaw Christian Academy Cougars softball team will host their first ever CCA Horse Show.
“We’re doing this as a fundraiser for the softball team. The first part of the day is just family fun, and at 5 p.m. we’ll start the horse show,” said Scotty Pennington, head softball coach and assistant football coach for CCA.
“This is our first year, so hopefully we’ll have a good turnout and we can make it an annual thing.”
Since a few girls at CCA currently perform in horse shows, Pennington thought it would be a unique idea to help the team get some much needed funds.
“We have four or five girls here that enter in the horse shows and do barrel racing and stuff like that,” Pennington said.
“We were trying to find something as a fundraiser, and they mentioned doing a horse show, so I said there you go.”
The show will be held at the Tom Harbin Farm Center at 816 Airport Road, and will feature vendors, performances, kid’s activities and water slides, face painting, cake and prize walks, concessions and more.
Vendors will open at 10 a.m. and the horse show will begin at 5 p.m. with a concert by 10-6 Upstairs immediately following.
All-day admission is $5 and the ticket can be entered into a drawing for different prizes; kids 12 and under can enter for free.
Those interested in competing in the horse race events can pay $3 for each event and $5 each for the timed events.
“We’ll have a judge for each event, and they’ll give out ribbons,” Pennington said.
“We’ll have stick horse racing and barrel racing for the kids. They are fun events, and the announcer will make it fun for everyone.”
