Election qualification period now over

Qualifications for the upcoming Crenshaw County elections have officially ended as of Tuesday, and the final candidates have put their names on the ballots.

Running for the office of Mayor are Wayne Carter, Alan Carpenter, Ulysse Babin, Ed Beasley and Pat Floyd.

Running for the office of Luverne City Councilmember for District One are Dianne Richardson and Charlie Johnson.

Running for the office of Luverne City Councilmember for District Two are Annette Stephenson and Kippery Smith.

Running for the office of Luverne City Councilmember for District Three are Mickey Worthington, Kathy Smyth and Brian Richardson.

Running for the office of Luverne City Councilmember for District Four are Elliott Jones, Robyn Snellgrove and Jerry Sipper.

Running for the office of Luverne City Councilmember for District Five are Samuel Patrick Walker, Jr. and Edward Billings, Jr.

To qualify for these offices, candidates must meet the criteria spelled out in the 2016 Alabama Municipal Elections Manual.

According to the manual, candidates must “certify that they are fully qualified to hold the respective offices for which they are candidates if elected thereto” and “shall be a resident and qualified elector of the city or town at the time they qualify to run for office and shall reside within the limits of the city or town during the term of office.”

Additionally, candidates must also have been residents of the area in which they intend to campaign for 90 prior to the election, as well as be a qualified elector at the time of filing their statement of candidacy.

The final elections will be held on Tuesday, August 23.
