Ernest Oliver Barganier

Ernest Oliver Barganier, born August 1, 1934, of Montgomery, Ala. and former resident of Luverne departed life Thursday, June 2, at St .Michael’s Assisted Living Home in Clinton, Md. Ernest graduated from Crenshaw County Training School, served in the US Army with Honorable discharge in 1952. He graduated in 1963 with a bachelors of engineering at Alabama A&M University. Ernest retired from IBM after 27 years of service returning to Montgomery where he joined his friend Paul Bracey of Bracey Vending as vice president of Montgomery Operations. Although he resided in Montgomery, he faithfully attended Woodford Avenue Community Church and stayed in touch with his many friends while he often visited Luverne. Ernest was one who loved his family. He was a true friend to many with a generous kind heart, always a gentleman. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Angela Barganier Phillips (husband Michael and two grandsons, Brandon and Bryce) of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters Edith Furman of Louisville, Ky, and Gladys Tazwell (husband Lawrence) of Youngstown, Ohio. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are his mother and father, May B. Richburg and Oliver Barganier Sr,; his brothers, Ira, Johnnie and Jesse; his sister, Mary Velma; and his nephew, John Rostic, also known as Chubby. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11a.m. at Woodford Avenue Community Church.  Service will be held Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Woodford Avenue Community Church in Luverne, Ala. with Bell’s Hudson Funeral Directing. Burial will follow in the Luverne Cemetery.

Norma Golden McLeod

Norma Golden McLeod, 91, a resident of Goshen, Ala., passed away on Friday, June 3.  Funeral services for McLeod were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 6, from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Jared Buchanan officiating.  Interment followed in Darien Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.  McLeod was preceded in death by her husbands, Forrest Timothy McLeod and Max McLeod; son, James Ronald McLeod; parents, Coon and Bess Golden; and two sisters, Jean Wible and Frances Gregory.  She is survived by her daughter, Judy McLeod Bozeman; two sons, Jerry Wayne McLeod and Mark Anthony McLeod; six grandchildren, Forrest McLeod, DeeDee Hinton, Melanie Jackson, Ronnie Bozeman, Mitch McLeod and Mallory McLeod; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Jeff Golden; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Active pallbearers were Joshua Hinton, Ronnie Bozeman, Mitch McLeod, Fletcher Bozeman, Paul Bozeman and Michael Sanders.

Dudley Warren Day

Dudley Warren Day, 64, a resident of Luverne, Ala. passed away on Wednesday, June 8. Day was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Cumi Walker Day.  He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Luann Smyth Day; two children, Wendy Day and Warren (Samantha) Day; two granddaughters, Taylore Rae Baxley and Ava Grace Fuller; two brothers, Ted Jerome Day and Steven Michael Day; and two nephews, Adam Day and Micah Day. The family plans to hold a private memorial service for him at a later date.
