A one-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 South has a portion of the interstate closed between Georgiana and Greenville, and according to authorities, it will likely remain closed for some time.

Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook said that the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near mile marker 118 will be closed for approximately five hours after a 18-wheeler hauling nearly 8,000 gallons of jet fuel turned over around 6 a.m. today. Nearly all of the fuel spilled out onto the roadway forcing officials to detour traffic.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is encouraging motorists to take alternate routes during the cleanup process. Motorists travelling south, even as far north as Montgomery, are encouraged to use Alabama Hwy. 97, Alabama Hwy. 185, and U.S. Hwy. 31.
